Pikabuu The Frozen Food: A Horror Adventure In the Freezer

Pikabuu The Frozen Food is a mini horror game by Joykeratif. Just like their previous titles, it delivers a nostalgic PS1-style aesthetic, a short but intense story, and multiple endings that change based on your choices. Get ready to feel the tension inside a mystery-filled freezer!

John’s Tough Life

This is indeed a freezer
This is indeed a freezer

Ever imagined what it’s like to work in a frozen food warehouse? As the name suggests, here you play as a warehouse worker named John. He’s been living on the streets, after being unemployed for two years.

One day, John gets a job offer as a warehouse staff member at a frozen food company. Desperate as he is, he took it without hesitation. But on his very first day, something feels… off. As soon as he steps into the freezer, the unsettling atmosphere kicks in.

There’s no long-winded intro or slow build-up, the creepy vibe hits you right from the start. It’s not a long horror game, but it wastes no time getting under your skin.

Short and Simple

Controls are super easy, WASD to move, SHIFT to run, CTRL to crouch, and E to interact. But don’t underestimate the simplicity, there’s a monster that is always lurking. And it can catch you easy if you’re not careful.

And there are three possible endings, happy, angry, and truth ending. You’ll only unlock them if you pay close attention to small details around you. Every little choice can shape the outcome.

This game is telling us that it isn’t all about fighting back. It’s about being clever and quick in a dangerous situation.

Retro Vibes

The graphics are intentionally low poly like the PlayStation 1 style, just the usual Joykeratif’s signature artstyle. Rough textures, dim lighting, and limited visibility all make the tension even stronger. Meat hanging from the ceiling, steel racks, everything builds a sense of claustrophobic dread.

It is only around 20 MB for the whole game, making it super light for both phones and low-spec PCs. The sound design is minimal, just the hum and crackle of the freezer, with the occasional faint scream.

Environment isn’t overly detailed either, it’s low-res and low-poly too, but that only adds to the eeriness. The visuals are overall simple, but they do an excellent job of creating a space that feels both dense and empty at the same time.

Absurd Plot Twist

Such a Cute Smile
Such a Cute Smile

While the game might look straightforward, Pikabuu: The Frozen Food hides a surprisingly wild twist. You play as John, just a desperate guy looking for work, until he gets a mysterious warehouse job.

But once you arrive, things start getting weird. Slowly, you realize you weren’t hired to work at all….

(spoiler alert!), you were brought in to be sacrificed!

The monster, from the info gathered, is referred to as The Smiling. It is a strange entity that lives inside the freezer. It wears an unnerving grin that sends shivers down your spine.

And previous employees have gone missing, and the company is actually part of a cult that worships The Smiling as some kind of freezing god. Every new hire is just another sacrifice to keep their “god” happy.

Cold Creepiness

This isn’t a slow-burn psychological horror. The scares come rather quick and without any filler, perfect for a short burst of adrenaline in your spare time.

Story wise? It doesn’t overstay its welcome, but the horror still hits hard. Once again, Joykeratif proves that even a file smaller than a PDF of a book can deliver a chilling experience that gets your heart racing.

Honestly, in my opinion, this game has the potential to be expanded into a bigger horror universe. The lore around The Smiling and the freezer cult could easily serve as the foundation for a prequel or spinoff. For now, we’ll just wait and see what other horror bangers Joykeratif has in store.
