AMPLITUDE is a dark visual novel created by Ceylon Entertainment. It delivers a world full of identity conflict, murder mysteries, and branching choices. Its narrative experience is intense, emotional, and packed with unexpected twists. Let’s get right into it!
The Year 2121
The world of AMPLITUDE feels bright on the outside, yet cold, and filled with uneasiness that instantly tells you this place is far from peaceful. This visual novel throws you into the year 2121, a time when genetic mutation has become part of everyday life.
In this world, people born with strange abilities are more accepted, while those who are “normal” are seen as weak. They’ve become a minority, often underestimated. You can really feel how this world is the complete opposite of ours today.
You don’t start the game as a hero or an adventurer, instead as someone who just died. Yes, died. Here, death isn’t the end, but the beginning of a long journey that places you inside someone else’s body. So… how does that even work?

Body Transfer?

In this world, you can enter a body that already has its own life, relationships, and burdens. It’s like you’re reviving someone else while also carrying the weight of your own past.
The identity conflict hits really hard. You’re not only trying to remember who you are, but also understanding who the original owner of the body was.
And the main reason you’ve taken over this body is none other than revenge. Finding out who was behind the murder of your previous self.
This world operates in a moral gray area that makes you question yourself.
If you were given a second chance at life, what would you do?
Branching Paths

AMPLITUDE gives you the freedom to choose your gender and the gender of the body you inhabit. This means the story can unfold in drastically different directions.
And it’s not just appearance that changes! The world itself reacts differently depending on who you are and the body you occupy.

The game also lets you explore the city, talk to characters with unique backstories, open side quests, and even craft items. There’s also a messaging system, similar to a chatting app, that lets you contact other characters. There are a lot of ways to influence the story here.
It’s not just one or two endings, but dozens. Five main endings, plus many character specific endings depending on the choices you make throughout the game.
And most importantly, the game doesn’t tell you which choices are good or bad. Every decision has a domino effect. A small action early on can trigger a major tragedy later in the story.

A Bright yet Cold Dystopian World

When it comes to visuals, AMPLITUDE doesn’t present hyper-realistic graphics or super detailed animations. But that simplicity is exactly what makes it unique.
The character designs are cute, 2D chibi style, with nicely drawn Anime portraits and backgrounds. Which is a sharp contrast to its heavy narrative themes. But behind their cheerful and ordinary faces, they hide things they never say out loud.
City and indoor environments are semi 3D, designed with bright tones that often feel uncomfortable because the world itself isn’t as cheerful as it looks. The color palette uses a lot of bright tones, and the UI resembles a scrapbook style, giving it a distinct 2010s vibe.
The visuals help keep you from getting too overwhelmed by the narrative. But you can still feel the cold loneliness of the characters and the weight of the secrets they carry. Even within a bright and cheerful aesthetic.

For Those Who Love Heavy Stories
AMPLITUDE isn’t a light, click and done visual novel. It makes you think. It pushes you into moral dilemmas and leads you through mysteries that don’t always have easy answers.
The story isn’t afraid to tackle themes of death, identity, social pressure, and uncontrollable power. Its world feels cold yet captivating. And each character has their own story and emotional depth that makes you care about their fate.
This is a game for players who love visual novels with plot twists, branching story routes, emotional drama, and dark lore. If that sounds like you, AMPLITUDE is one of Indonesian developed games you should definitely add to your wishlist!
