When talking about rising Indonesian developers, Gamecom Team is definitely one to count. While playing their ambitious game Troublemaker, it turns out that they have released another game that is just as unique, titled Babol the Walking Box. As the name suggests, this game challenges your logic, what would happen if a cardboard box could walk and become a hero?

Cardboard World Full of UwU

The uniqueness of Babol the Walking Box is immediately apparent from its premise. Yes, you are Babol, a box that can walk. The description on its Steam page bluntly states, “Yes, it’s a game about a box that can walk… UwU.” As a result, the game establishes a strong sense of comedy and self awareness from the very beginning. This isn’t a serious game, but one that invites us to have fun with its crazy idea.

Once you enter the game, veteran gamers will immediately experience deja vu. This is because Babol’s gameplay is heavily inspired by classic 3D platformer games from the PS1 era, especially Crash Bandicoot. You will control Babol as he runs along a linear path, jumping between platforms, avoiding obstacles, and defeating enemies. Additionally, Babol also has a slam attack ability to take down enemies that stand in the way of his adventure in the Box World.

Visually, Gamecom Team opted for a low-poly 3D graphic style with distinctive low polygons. This style successfully evokes a retro feel, as if we were playing games on old school consoles. Although it looks simple, the world is designed to be colorful. Babol will go on an adventure exploring various biomes, from wilderness forests and hot deserts to cold snowy mountains. So, the adventure is guaranteed not to be monotonous.

Now Available! Time to Support Local Games

In conclusion, this game is a simple, funny, and addictive 3D platformer, especially for those of you who miss Crash Bandicoot’s gameplay. This game proves that even weird ideas can make for exciting games.
