Horror with a Touch of Story and Symbolism
Unlike modern horror games, which often rely on jumpscares and realistic visuals, KONON: The Ritual emphasizes a narrative approach. This game is designed as a story-driven horror game, where tension is built through story, symbolism, and an atmosphere of uncertainty.
Through a classic pixel art style, players are invited to explore a chilling and mysterious world where dark rituals, ancient legends, and past secrets intertwine. Each step is not just a physical journey, but an inner journey toward understanding something deeper and darker.
This approach is reminiscent of the 90s gaming era, where simple graphics didn’t hinder players’ imaginations from building their own fears. In fact, therein lies its power horror born from ambiguity and imagination, rather than explicit visuals.

Indie Project with Local Soul

One of the things that makes KONON: The Ritual so appealing is its local touch. While the developer hasn’t shared many details, various snippets and descriptions on social media suggest inspiration from Indonesian mysticism and culture from ritual themes and spirituality to folk tales transformed into visual symbols.
This game joins a growing list of local creators boldly expressing Indonesian cultural identity through interactive media. From DreadOut to Pamali, projects like KONON: The Ritual continue this tradition with a more personal and experimental artistic style.
Support from the Community

As an indie WIP (Work In Progress) project, KONON: The Ritual is still being developed independently. Its developer, Pixzelbeast, actively shares the game’s progress through platforms like Ko-fi and social media, while also encouraging the community to support the process whether morally, through ideas, or financially.
This collaborative spirit is crucial to the local game development ecosystem. It provides a space for young creators to experiment, learn, and introduce their work to a wider audience.
