MALANG — Goodsigma Sportswear, a business unit under Macroscope Berdikari Nusantara Group, has officially become the first jersey apparel producer in the Greater Malang area to obtain Halal Certification from the Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH) under Indonesia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs.
The certification covers the entire production process, from the selection of raw thread materials and the ink used for full-print printing, to the stitching process, all of which underwent an audit and were confirmed free of impure or non-halal substances.
Why Goodsigma Sportswear Pursued Halal Certification
Osman Nur Chaidir, CEO of Macroscope Berdikari Nusantara Group, said that halal certification for apparel products is still uncommon in today’s sportswear industry. He emphasized that the concept of halal is not limited to consumable products, but also extends to what people wear during daily activities and worship.
“Halal isn’t just about what we eat, but also what we wear while we’re active and while we worship,” Osman said.
Obtaining the certification reportedly required significant time, cost, and a rigorous documentation audit process before ultimately being approved by BPJPH. The move stands out given that few apparel businesses, particularly in the sportswear jersey segment, have pursued a similar certification process.
What This Means for the Industry
Beyond its religious significance, halal certification also affects production quality standards. The use of raw materials and inks that have passed cleanliness audits is seen as raising product safety standards for consumers, including in terms of comfort and skin health for wearers.
Goodsigma Sportswear’s move has also drawn attention as a sign of comprehensive business commitment — not only in production, but in overall business governance — in line with the principle of amanah (trustworthiness), which is part of the broader spirit behind halal certification.
With this achievement, Goodsigma Sportswear, under Macroscope Berdikari Nusantara Group, has become one of the local businesses in Greater Malang pushing for new standards in the apparel industry, particularly around production transparency and halal assurance for sportswear products.
As of this report, there has been no official statement regarding plans to extend halal certification to other product lines under Macroscope Berdikari Nusantara Group.
