Lucerna Tenebris is a fantasy RPG by Dragon Emperors. Featuring a grid-based Active Time Battle (ATB) system, it tells the story of a conflict between humans, demi-humans, and two young adventurers who dare to challenge fate. So, what’s it really like?
A World Born from War

The game takes place in a world torn apart by a great war between Gods and Demons, which shattered the balance of life. From that battle, creatures were born, beings that shouldn’t exist. Animals turned into monsters, and humans transformed into demi-humans.
But instead of living together in peace, humans began to fear and hate those who were less fortunate. Fear turned into hatred, and hatred leads into war.
In this fragile world, the story of Rex and Regina unfolds. Two passionate teenagers who just stepped into the world of adventurers. At first, they only wanted to explore, meet new people, and fight off evil monsters.
But without realizing it, those small steps slowly pull them into a much bigger conflict. One involving history, sins of the past, and a destiny that’s been waiting for them. The world of Lucerna Tenebris truly reflects the darker side of humanity itself.

Strategy and Timing

If you think Lucerna Tenebris is just another simple turn-based RPG because of its RPG Maker visuals, think again. The game combines a grid-based system with Active Time Battle (ATB). This means you don’t just think about turn order, you also need to consider positioning on the battlefield and the best timing to act.
Each character has their own ATB bar that needs to fill up before they can move or attack. So timing and rhythm of the combat matter a lot.
Every action happens on a small grid, similar to a chessboard. Your position really affects everything. From area attacks, range, even your chances of getting hit depend on where you stand.
So instead of just waiting for your turn, you’ll be managing positioning and team combos to counter enemies efficiently. It feels like semi real-time combat that still keeps the depth and calculation of traditional turn-based systems.
Your Own Build
Outside of combat, Lucerna Tenebris features two character growth systems. There’s Mastery, where you learn new skills based on the weapon type you use.
And then there’s Forte, which works like a class system that grants unique abilities depending on each character’s role in the team. This combination gives players freedom to experiment and create their own fighting style. Crafting a build that perfectly matches how they want to play.
Classic Vibes

Visually, Lucerna Tenebris carries that classic charm that instantly feels nostalgic. It uses 2D pixel art typical of JRPGs made in RPG Maker. Wooden interiors, small towns, and cobblestone paths all come to life with clean, minimalistic detail.
The color palette is soft and warm, contrasting beautifully with the game’s dark and heavy theme. The soundtrack supports the mood perfectly, from the gentle melodies in taverns to the intense rhythms during battle. Overall, it’s pure JRPG vibes, a treat for fans of the genre.

A Must Try!
Lucerna Tenebris proves that indie games can deliver a rich fantasy world with deep storytelling and engaging mechanics. Dragon Emperors has built a solid foundation for something truly special. And even though this is still in early version, it already shows huge potential to become an RPG with a strong, unique identity.
The game reminds us that in life, good and evil aren’t always clear. Often, everything exists in shades of gray. Both humans and demi-humans have their own reasons and struggles. Every dialogue and every small decision feels like a reflection of what it means to bring light into the darkness.
